Thank you for visiting my booth at Heimtextil 2018 Messe Frankfurt. My artwork attracted new and international clients who resonate with my empathic approach to Print & Product Design.  Designs were booked for amongst other wallpapers, interior textiles, clothing, bedding and bath linen.

'Plant' lithograph

‘Alle Dinghe’ (all things) refers to a C13th Dutch text on the love of diversity authored by an anonymous female.
The exhibited work of Joris Martens is an affirmation of the inconstant and ephemeral quality of the diverse.

Martens draws! In sketchbooks, on paper, lithographic stone, mobile phone and tablet with latter attention to its printed form.
In a world worshipping the monetary value of the authentic, the will to multiply and share seems peculiar.
The prints and lithographs invite personal internalization and dialogue.
Martens’ works are included in both national and international collections; including MoMa, New York.

‘Alle Dinghe' verwijst naar een tekst uit de dertiende eeuw van een anonieme vrouw die haar liefde voor verscheidenheid opschrijft. De tentoonstelling vormt een pleidooi voor het vluchtige en het tijdelijke.

Joris Martens tekent ! Op papier, in schetsboeken, op litho steen, mobiel en op tablet. Het afdrukken van tekeningen is performant in zijn werkmethodiek. De gedachte van vermenigvuldigen en delen is atypisch in een wereld die zich blindstaart op het origineel en zijn monetaire waarde. De prints en litho’s nodigen uit tot verinnerlijking en persoonlijke dialoog.
Het werk van Joris Martens is opgenomen in binnenlandse en buitenlandse collecties, onder meer in het MoMa, New York.

'Getekende Zomer' is een project, georganiseerd door (sho͞o′bĭl′) gallery. De door de tijd getekende, mooie ruimte toont tekenwerk van zeven hedendaagse kunstenaars . Zij bevestigen dat tekenkunst gezien kan worden als autonome kunstvorm.

Drawing takes over thinking and tells us what to think

To be in the world and to take part in it. That's what I like.

We made a stop on the way to the beach in Yyteri to grill some food. This sand road was appealing to me. Not particularly for its destination, but only for its own sake. It functioned like a mirror of its surroundings. In bearing the playful shadows of pine needles and aspens' leaves and beach lovers' footprints it talks about summer.

Soaking

The light drunk in as into an oil slick.
In the dark basalt mirror we catch our own shadow.
As a prelude for pretties to be forgotten overnight.

Het licht wordt als in een olievlek opgezogen.
In die donkere basalte spiegel betrappen we onze eigen schim.
Als een voorbode voor de dingen die overnacht weer vergeten zijn.

The Heath

The Leitmotiv of my coming book - if compared to a landscape - is the heath.  
The heath is an abandoned though cultivated place where in fact a lot of things happen. It has relief, in which one doesn’t really know what’s hiding. On the surface it could look melancholic in violet, but the heath is full of life indeed.

They grow in different paces.
The grass in which we lie is displayed frontal and straight up.

I think art serves in the first place our personal experiences. My artistic practice has always been a quest how to generate personal meaning and positive emotions in other people's lives. How to move one's quintessence. How to set up a visual dialogue on a personal level. The architecture of intimacy is my passion. This site is a platform to meet, exchange and deepen out.

Here I would like to share my work with YOU, when you have the time and interest. Gradually new items and images will be added, both from past projects and to illustrate new ideas.
