Eye in Eye (Oog in Oog) / Jacob Smitsmuseum Mol, Belgium
The Jacob Smitsmuseum (Mol, Belgium) invited 14 Belgian artist to enter into a dialogue with the works of Jacob Smits. Joris Martens created a domestic atmosphere in the museum to honour Smits intimate world.
The installation expands over 2 walls covered with wallpaper designed by Joris Martens and available at Designer-Wallpaper. On the walls a composition is mounted of his lithographs together with two prints by Jacob Smits. The latter two prints are different states of the same work in dry needle technique and show children playing in the event of a flood. The work gives an open and unfinished impression, unlike most other graphic works by Jacob Smits. Showing two states of the same work creates space for interpretation.
The wallpaper linking art and design is manufactured by Designer-Wallpaper. The wallpaper echoes the natural environment, plays with repetitions and serves as a conversation piece.
The selected lithographs by Joris Martens are adding different perspectives and tender interaction to the installation.
